Christopher Paul Ohlmeyer Death, Obituary — Jefferson Parish Deputy Killed in Motorcycle Crash During Funeral Procession

JEFFERSON PARISH, Louisiana, USA — The law enforcement community and the broader Gulf Coast region are mourning the tragic death of Deputy Christopher Paul Ohlmeyer, a veteran member of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, who was killed Friday, January 30, 2026, in a motorcycle crash while performing a funeral escort duty in New Orleans. His sudden passing has left family, friends, and fellow officers heartbroken.

Deputy Ohlmeyer, 41, of River Ridge, was serving in an off-duty assignment when the fatal collision occurred in the 9200 block of Airline Highway around 11:40 a.m. while he was escorting a funeral procession. According to the New Orleans Police Department, he was riding his motorcycle and had come to a stop in the roadway when a sedan struck him from behind. He was transported to a local hospital but was later pronounced dead from his injuries.

A dedicated law enforcement professional, Ohlmeyer had served with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office for nearly 15 years, beginning his career after graduating from the Training Academy in August 2014. He spent much of his career in the Fourth District, where he served for 11 years, before being transferred to the Traffic Division in 2025, where he recently qualified as a motorman.

Deputy Ohlmeyer is remembered by colleagues as a committed, dependable, and respected officer whose work helped protect and serve local communities. His service extended beyond his official duties, as he volunteered for assignments such as funeral processions to ensure the safety and dignity of those mourning their loved ones.

He is survived by his wife, Desiree, and their two children, Gavin and Olivia, who have been kept in the thoughts and prayers of fellow deputies and community members. Law enforcement leaders from across the region have expressed deep condolences and emphasized the close bond shared among officers and their families during times of loss.

The New Orleans Police Department is leading the ongoing investigation into the crash, working with traffic investigators to analyze video and other data. The driver of the other vehicle involved was also transported to the hospital, though officials have not publicly released details about that individual’s condition.

Funeral and memorial service arrangements for Deputy Ohlmeyer have not yet been announced, and the family is asking for privacy as they navigate this difficult time. Heartfelt condolences continue to pour in from the law enforcement community and beyond for a life dedicated to public service and protection.
